Ryan K. Askew
As Chief Financial Officer, Ryan K. Askew leads Canaan’s financial operations in all respects. Mr. Askew is responsible for managing Canaan’s strategic planning, debt financing, treasury, banking, corporate and structural matters. He also oversees the accounting department, financial reporting and audits as well as Limited Partner reporting for all of Canaan’s respective funds- IX, X, XI and XII.
Mr. Askew started with Canaan in July 2009 serving under and along-side Mike Mewbourn who had been Canaan’s Chief Financial Officer for 30 years. Ryan’s evolution from Chief Accounting Officer to Chief Financial Officer was advantageously seamless for Canaan and was in view as a natural move in recent years. Mr. Askew would attribute the easy transition to the foundation laid by his friend and mentor Mr. Mewbourn.
Among the many highlights in his career with Canaan, Mr. Askew assisted in the initial structuring of the Drilling Fund as an acquirer of net profits interest, an arrangement often sought by non-taxable investors. Most recently Mr. Askew planned, marketed and closed a Volumetric Production Payment (VPP) in an otherwise debt free Fund, allowing for the return of significant capital to Fund XI investors at attractive terms. He continues as an integral liaison to the investment team overseeing strategic planning, deal funding, terms, structure, financial modeling, and post-close deal management.
Before joining Canaan, Mr. Askew served as an Auditor at Grant Thornton in Oklahoma City where he led engagements for some of the largest public and private clients in the Oklahoma City office.
Mr. Askew is a graduate of Oklahoma Christian University, where he received his Masters of Business Administration and Bachelors of Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting. Ryan is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants.
